A Safe Place To Go

When children arrived at various stations in Cornwall they were billeted with families in local towns and villages. Siblings were often under instructions from their parents to stick together. This sometimes made it difficult to find them foster homes, as many families would not take more than one or two children.

Welcome parties were organised, and spare clothes were donated by the local communities.

However, newspaper reports of the time indicate that while many local families welcomed evacuees, some refused to take them in.
